laser eye surgery, cataract surgery, eye surgery

Surgery Co-management - Before any eye surgery, there is pre-operative care that is required to ensure your eyes get the best result from your surgery. Additionally, post-operative care is important for a complete recovery and to minimize delayed healing or other complications. Laser eye surgery, keratoconus cross-linking, and cataract surgery pre-operative and post-operative care are provided at WESTWOOD EYE DOCTORS. If you are considering eye surgery, then please book an appointment with our doctors. Our doctors review all parameters of your eye to assess if you are a candidate for surgery and make recommendations for your surgery.

Retinal Imaging - We provide high-definition retinal imaging to detect eye disease earlier, and to more accurately monitor the progression of disease such as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma.

With retinal imaging, we are able to detect eye health changes by comparing side by side retinal images, from past to present.  With the retinal imaging, our optometrists are also better able to explain your eye health and provide quality eye care treatment options.

Zeiss Cirrhus HD OCT

OCT Scanning - We are equipped to take high-definition cross-sectional profiles of the retina to detect retinal cysts, macular edema, and wet macular degeneration in the early stages for early prevention and treatment of these sight-damaging conditions.  OCT scanning also allows us to digitally dimension the optic nerve and nerve fibres to detect diagnose and manage glaucoma in its early stages.

Binocular System Assessment

Binocular System Assessment - It is not only how sharply your eyes see that matters.  The way your eyes' muscle systems work together as a pair is also important for comfort.

We assess your eyes for horizontal and vertical alignment, strabismus, stereopsis, fusion, eye tracking accuracy and binocular eye strain to ensure that your extraocular muscle systems function properly on a physical as well as a neurological level and to recommend and provide treatment and management if required.

Color vision, color blind

Colour Vision Assessment - Our clinic provides comprehensive colour vision testing for specialized fields such as in firefighting, law enforcement, military defence, motor vehicle licensing, train and railway work, the aviation environment and metallurgical testing.  With specialized pediatric tests, we are able to measure the colour vision of children who are too young to respond to conventional colour vision tests.  And with our background in the genetics of colour vision, we can counsel you and your family members on any questions you may have on the inheritance of colour vision abnormalities.

Contact lens

Contact Lens Fitting - At WESTWOOD EYE DOCTORS, contact lens specifications are determined by a Doctor of Optometry for clear, comfortable vision and long term eyelid and corneal health and safety.  We provide conventional, disposable, high oxygen silicone-hydrogel disposable and daily disposable contact lenses. We also specialize in toric/astigmatism, rigid gas-permeable, alternating or monovision and multifocal contact lenses.

visual field

Visual Field AnalysisOur clinic is equipped to perform the most sensitive blue-yellow as well as the conventional white-white computerized visual field analyses of optic nerve function to detect, quantify and manage early visual field loss such as would occur in glaucoma, and to detect and quantify other optic nerve pathway disorders such as would occur in optic neuritis,  multiple sclerosis and pituitary tumour.

Sports VisionTo enhance athletic confidence and performance, excellent visual-motor coordination is essential. Fast reaction times, accurate reaction responses, superb central and peripheral vision, and excellent bilateral visual-motor coordination are important elements of the visual-motor system. These elements can be measured and trained to enhance athletic confidence and performance.

Latisse Eye Lash EnhancementLatisse is an FDA approved treatment (2008) to grow eyelashes for people with inadequate eye lash length and/or volume. It is also known as bimatoprost, a glaucoma drug (brand name Lumigan, manufacturer Allergan, Inc.),which has been in use since 2001. With the use of brimatoprost, eye doctors and glaucoma patients noticed a hair growth side effect, with longer, lusher eyelashes appearing over time, usually within 2 months of use.

Before we prescribe Latisse as an eye lash growth treatment, we first set out to identify any eye lid disease or other ocular disease as an underlying cause of poor lid health and insufficient lash growth. For example, in meibomian gland disease, dry eye disease, persistent or recurrent conjunctival infection or Demodex infections, eye lid health is commonly compromised and eye lash growth reduced leading to thin and sparse lashes. It is important that these disease conditions be identified and addressed adequately before proceeding with lash enhancement treatments.

Furthermore, for the health and safety of the eyes, we emphasize that patients adhere to the published guidelines and be aware of the precautions associated with the use of Latisse. We recommend having the eyes examined before and after starting treatment. We ask patients to report any changes in iris colour, deepening of colour in the skin around their eyes, inflammation, or any other eye or vision changes they might experience.
